It’s so funny how we don’t laugh any more
“Why so serious”? The Joker said. However, this could be said for the vast amount of football on the tele-box. I’m not talking about the football which is played, more the commentary and the programmes that support our great game.
Let’s face it, gone are the days where Tim Lovejoy and Helen Chamberlain where at the helm of Soccer AM and used to be funny. Say goodbye to Des Lynam’s amusing face on Match of the Day. Instead we have a boring Gary Lineker, with his even more boring, so called, football pundits. The only glimmer of hope we have is Adrian Chiles on Match of the Day 2, and even is humour is sometimes given a wide berth, not that it’s because he’s a Baggies fan!
So, where do we go from here?
Cast your mind back, way back, where television was in a golden age and you stopped up late to watch 2 people sitting on a couch with some strange looking guy sitting down at the breakfast bar. That’s right! Fantasy Football League.
It was great fun to watch, headed up by Frank Skinner and David Baddiel and accompanied by Statto it made great viewing. Surely, given the plight of football punditry, we need this sort of programme back. Let’s give Fantasy Football League its own Phoenix from the Flames.
Football is all about fun, people enjoying themselves and having a laugh. Comedy and Football go hand in hand, much like X-Factor and Simon Cowell, or Victoria’s and Secrets. So why aren’t broadcasters doing anything about it!?!
It stops here. I believe we should petition to bring back Fantasy Football League. If I can have a show of votes on this blog for those in favour of bringing it back I’ll arrange it with the guys from UKFootballFinder to send it on to Channel 4.
Who is with me? Your votes count.
