Ultimate 11’s – Real Madrid

The week’s Ultimate 11′s is another potential all Mustard line up. Dave Hunter gives us his Real Madrid 11, it’s a pretty decent team but we do feel there’s a few players missing, we won’t mention any names we’ll leave that to you!

Do you really know your clubs proud history or are you just a teenage glory hunter? (not mentioning any names from the Kings Road). Remember you must pick a decent 11, not 10 forwards and a goalie. We’ll have a butchers and I’ll give my verdict from Mustard to Pony. E-mail your team to Dexy@ukfootballfinder.co.uk

One thing Dexy, I didnt put Rio Ferdinand in my 11!!!!!!!!!!!

Darren June 29, 2009 at 7:35 am

Dexy, have you been on the Mustard Juice again? When did Rio play for Mardid?

Iain June 29, 2009 at 8:07 am

Ferenc Puskas and Alfredo Di Stefano are missing. I almost had to use capital letters to emphasise the importance of these omissions.

It’s meant to be from 70 onwards, otherwise they would have been straight in. As for Rio, it’s hot and the work experience kid is still of a flutter over the Final tonight, it’s ok, i’ll give him an hiding at lunchtime! Who was your other defender Davey?

Daveyboy June 29, 2009 at 12:02 pm

it was Sergio Ramos

I appreciate that Di Stefan and Puskas were excluded but I never got to see theses players play. I have only included players that I have seen wear the Madrid shirt.

Rud Van Mistletoe? Are you sure? He’s had 1 good season there. Surely Ronaldo should be in the team let alone the bench!

83 goals in 127 games says it all

This team had the potential to be all Mustard as, but the forward selection let the side down big time!

I respect that but I was never impressed with Ronaldo in a Madrid shirt.

You could argue that Morientes should have been in there.

It would be good to see other peoples Madrid’s 11 plus 3 subs

From players I have seen play, my selection is as follows.

GK – Casillas
RB – Sergio Ramos – miles better than salgado ever was
CB – Manuel Sanchis – animal
CB – Fernando Hierro
LB – Roberto Carlos
MF – Michel – still remember his hat-trick at Italia 90!
MF – Fernando Redondo (one of my favourite players ever)
MF – Zinedine Zidane
CF – Luis Figo
CF – Hugo Sanchez – the original Carlos Vela, but miles better
CF – Emilio Butragueno – goal machine!

Subs are a bit of personal preference and players I loved watching, rather than all time superstars;
1 – Christian Karembeu
2 – Clarence Seedorf
3 – Predrag Mijatovic (just ahead of Prosinecki)

So i left out Raul and Makelele, but only on the premise that the players I did pick would get a game ahead of them (Butragueno and Redondo I reckon) but there aen’t as many WOW players to pick from as with Barcelona!

I agree that any recent Madrid team must have Fernando Redondo in. He was the finest midfielder of his type. He bullied and outmuscled Roy Keane a couple of times, while still playing with grace and finesse. They call him the Prince of Madrid.

Also, i have a soft spot for the love/hate figure of Guti. Not just because of his lovely hair, partying with Trannies and flamboyant clothes. On his day, i think he can be the most creative midfielder in the world. Unfortunately, those days dont come along too often. I still like him tho.

Ps. Iain- i still remember Michel’s hat-trick too. I loved every goal he scored in that hat-trick…. although my favourite goal from that world cup was by Dragan Stoikovic when he pulled down a high ball, while simultaniously faking to shoot and leaving a defender on his arse. Simple goal- but i loved watching it.

Darren June 30, 2009 at 11:16 am

That’s a much better side, but still no Ronaldo? Look at his stats, he can’t be over looked. Butragneno’s record was 123 goals in 341 games, Ronaldo’s was much better then that!

I agree with dropping Raul, one of the most over rated players of all time. And Beckham is NOT a Real great

dexylongshot June 30, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Beckham?

Iain June 30, 2009 at 2:25 pm

Ronaldo at Barcelona = amazing, at Inter, even better possibly, but at Real Madrid he was an overweight primadonna. Goals scored is impressive, but you can prove anything with stats. He really disrupted the team and for that I don’t rate him. You need to have a bit of class to get in my teams! Having said that he’d get in the Inter Milan 11 I reckon.

Also, his hat-trick for Real against Man Utd is the reason Roman Abramovich got interested in football, so I can’t really allow him in as a matter of principle. Indirectly, he made Chelsea what they are today. Bad Ronaldo.

Stevie June 30, 2009 at 6:51 pm

in all fairness, Ronaldo was fat and over weight in the WC 2002, yet still managed to score 7 goals.
