The Ultimate 11’s – AC Milan

This week’s Ultimate 11’s is a truly momentous occasion, and one that top blogger Patrick Curry and friends spent many an hour debating over. It’s only the second time we’ve had an all mustard 11, and what a team!

Is this superb AC Milan side better then the Barcelona mustard 11? That’s for you to decide!

Do you really know your clubs proud history or are you just a teenage glory hunter? (not mentioning any names from the Kings Road & Eastlands). Where’s Shevchenko? he was quality for AC Milan, at the top of his game for 6 years, he’s also scored over 40 goals for Ukraine, how many players have scored over 40 goals for their country? I would have put him in there over George Weah to be honest.

dexylongshot September 7, 2009 at 11:13 am: Yep, Shev is a miss on here and I would probably put him ahead of Savicevic. Too think Redknapp had him on trial at West Ham but said he didn’t cut the Mustard, or was that Dalgleish??

Iain September 7, 2009 at 11:20 am: I really liked Boban and Jean Pierre Papin, but can see why they might not have made the cut! Strange to think that they struggle to make any impact on the league in Italy these days.

And I think Silvio Berlusconi might be disappointed that he hasn’t been selected in every position here.
Mike September 7, 2009 at 11:24 am: Savicevic was class, he was considered by many to be the best player of his generation, the fact that he came from the old Yugoslavia probably means he didn’t get as much attention as the Italians
dexylongshot September 7, 2009 at 6:05 pm: I do admit, I don’t know much about Savicevic whereas i know plenty about Shev. At the back, rockface Baresi, he was the business.
Patrick September 11, 2009 at 12:28 pm: Savicevic was nominated by every single Milan fan I quizzed on the subject. He was an integral part of the European Cup winning team and had he played for someone other than Yugoslavia he would’ve consistently been talked of in much higher terms.

There was a lot of debate over Sheva. Weah gets in for the extraordinary variety of goals he scored. He was literally a danger from anywhere on the pitch. Boban was absolutely top class and it’s a shame he’s up against the likes Gullit, Rijkaard, Rivera and Kaka or he’d definitely waltz in. The only other debate was keepers. Recently Milan have had absolute rubbish for keepers so everyone went way back to find a decent custodian. The defence obviously speaks for itself. 2867 Milan appearences between them (the majority as a unit) is utterly ridiculous.
