Faltering Whites finally run out of steam?
After yet another disappointing display today Leeds United have won just one of their last six games heading into the final 4 games of the season. At the minute they are playing like a team threatened with relegation rather than one destined for the premier league. Every fan has their own opinion on why this has happened mine is a pretty simple one, there is not enough championship experience in this team and at times they are too naive for their own good, for example Robert Snodgrass and Luciano Becchio two of the Leeds star players have never played at this level. Both are still learning how to cope on this stage with all the attention and focus that the players get it can’t be easy and at times it probably unsettles them. Another reason is the defence it is simply not good enough, there isn’t a natural leader at the back and it shows as there is no communication between the centre backs, neither full backs are consistent performers and as for Kasper Schmeichel he has been making mistakes all season at pivotal moments however the one thing that saves him is his incredible reflexes and ability between the sticks which is why people rate him as one of the best keepers outside the premiership.
Leeds can draw from previous experiences of coming back after a poor run of form, you only have to go back as far as last season. At Christmas everything was looking great with Leeds clear at the top of league one but after the famous victory at Old Trafford against Man United things went south they suffered defeats at the hands of Swindon and Exeter but when it came down to the final seven games they won five of them to claim promotion. This time however they now have a four game mini season in which I believe they need three wins to be guaranteed a play-off place. But as they have the hardest run in out of the play-off contenders that could be asking just a little too much and should they miss out they can only have themselves to blame as dropped points against Barnsley and derby to name a couple are the reason that they aren’t closer to the automatic places.
However I am sure that if you offered any Leeds fan this position at the start of the season they would of snatched your hand off but now as we near the end some are beginning to call for the sacking of Grayson which is completely ludicrous as without that man they wouldn’t be where they are today. For these final four games Grayson will have them fired up as he wants to take his boyhood club back to the big time, so yes they aren’t performing at their best at the moment but I am confident they will be able to secure that play-off place and challenge for promotion.
