Harry Redknapp – football’s biggest hypocrite?

by Paul Connolly

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Harry Redknapp, who spent most of last week aiming poisonous verbal darts in the direction of Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini, last night went on live television to try to get the FA to take retrospective action against Mario Balotelli for an alleged stamp on Scott Parker during City’s dramatic win against Spurs.

Funny, I thought Harry was against managers trying to get players sent off, even retrospectively. After all, didn’t he criticise Mancini for waving imaginary cards from the touchline? But somehow it’s OK to try to get players sent off if you’re Harry Redknapp. What nauseating hypocrisy.

It wouldn’t be so bad if the alleged target of Balotelli’s heel hadn’t been the thuggish Parker, who spent most of the game chasing David Silva around, kicking lumps out of him. What about Parker, Harry? Should retrospective action be taken against him?

Of course not. Redknapp is national disgrace. Let’s hope the FA never see fit to appoint him as England manager.

You are a moron! Mancini is like a spoilt brat who thinks the world is against him. Balotelli intentionally stamped on another player in full view of the tv cameras, it is not some imaginary incident. Parker thuggish ? What game were you watching ? You are a twat.

john January 23, 2012 at 10:52 am

you’re a fucking idiot.

Greekos January 23, 2012 at 10:53 am

Not sure what footage you were watching but Parkers tackles were fair and of course the odd foul but he didnt tackle anyone with any malice. What Balotelli did was to kick out at someone on the floor. It was a disgrace and retrospective action should be taken. Lescott’s elbow to the face of Kaboul wasnt exactly accidental either.

There is a big difference between looking at a VT assessing the footage and deciding that for the good of the game someone who does something like that should be punished and waving imaginary cards in the middle of the game in an attempt to get players sent off.

Next bus to woolwich! January 23, 2012 at 10:53 am

Better to be a national disgrace than just merely a disgrace to your own family eh Paul? Grow up and make some salient comments, instead of pouring vitriol and disdain via this medium. After all your team lost too.

specsavers foe Webb January 23, 2012 at 10:53 am

And a misguided twat at that.

barretta January 23, 2012 at 10:54 am

yeah, what malSpur said. Agree with him 100%….WTF are you on about in this article???

Neil Hookway January 23, 2012 at 10:55 am

Didn’t think it was a stamp…but didnt think it looked very good in slow mo either. In real time he just looked off balance.

Didnt have any issues with Parker and thought Spurs were unlucky. Doesn’t stop it being the end of their season though.

cyril January 23, 2012 at 11:00 am

This is nonsense. Scott parker gets on with it and has not a mean bone in his body. Souness was always regarded, like parker, as very tough but fair. Tackle hard but fairly; stamping on a player is a sending off offence in rugby and has no place in football. Many neutrals were happy for City to do well (most are realistic, yes they are buying it but everton, and spurs themselves, had their glory when they were richer than others and their tansfers broke the record regularly) BUT the manager and some players are making the neutral support united, a shame. Lescott was worse as he could see where he was putting his elbow and moved toward kaboul, he did not need to put his arm up to stop himself from falling or getting hurt, it seems quite deliberate. ben thatcher all over again. as i say, let us pray united win it and there will be a small piece of justice. there are some city fans who are ashamed and embarrassed by what he did but the large majority seem happy with it. i have no time for that

steves January 23, 2012 at 11:02 am

Bang on this odious man is the media’s darling, and a total hypocrite.

Malspur – Grow up and take your spurs head off l was at the the game and Parker got away with foul after foul, if Balotelli is proven to have “intentionally” have stamped on Parker he will face a ban. If City would have had Kompany you would not even of been in the game, no need for the names either very bitter and childish..

Stuart January 23, 2012 at 11:03 am

“Thuggish Parker”! What are you talking about? Tackling is part of the game and Parker does it well. Not every player comes in the mould of Silva, Aguero and Modric but Parker is equally a fantastic professional who plays to the laws of the game. The only thugs on the pitch yesterday were the extremely average Lescott (elbowing Kabul in the face) and Balotelli (stamping on Parker’s head while he lay helpless on the floor). To try and defleft that is shameful and embarrassing. Redknapp pointing this out is completely different to Mancini’s actions recently which I agree have been blown out of perspective although all Harry said was that he didn’t like it! Is that so bad?

jimmy January 23, 2012 at 11:03 am

Nice article clearly written for Comic Relief. Balotelli is entertainment value but the guy has some serious behavoural issues. It was clearly a sneaky stamp on Parker for all to see. He’ll get a letter from the FA no doubt and enjoy a few weeks off football.

As for Redknapp, what are you talking about you windbag?

Dan January 23, 2012 at 11:14 am

Do you actually believe what you are writing? This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read, you must literally be retarded.

spursmad January 23, 2012 at 11:19 am

as a yid fan for many years i am disgusted by Harry. Keep your mouth shut until we win something. Stop moaning about all the manc money and stop moaning about the mancini red cards. What you did was worse, and you looked like you were going to cry. stop making my club look stupid and you better get off the court case or you should be sacked. COYS

cityboy January 23, 2012 at 11:20 am

totally agree with spursmad, and nice to see soem logic. The slowmo jury are tring to crucity Mario again. If it was so serious ‘arry then why didnt any spurs palyers say anything at the time.

Time to grow up arry and go to gaol!!!

BlueSilva January 23, 2012 at 11:22 am

Agree 100%, Balotelli was completely off balance and had no idea Parker was there yet Harry as usual whores himself out to the cameras to show himself to be the hypocrite. The sooner Redknapp is jailed the better, no one deserves it more.

Comrade Buka January 23, 2012 at 11:23 am

Funny how most of the commenters happily deflect the main point of the post: ‘Arrys’s hypocrisy.

Alfonso Mango January 23, 2012 at 11:25 am

It is a fair comment. Whether the Spurs arse lickers on here like it or not, whether Balotelli did deliberately stamp or not, it is all irrelevant. Redknapp spent all week moralising and then came out with the classic, “I’m the last person to try to get a player banned…” But will anyway becaue I’m a hypocritical tit. And as for Parker, he did spend all game comitting petty fouls. If Webb had used the same criteria for booking that he did when he gave Balotelli his yellow then Parker would have been off before half time. One rule for media darling Scotty and another for everyone else it seems.

cityboy January 23, 2012 at 11:28 am

i wonder if ‘arry understands that it is perjury to lie in court. cant wait to see him slopping out. Thief!!

Hmmm January 23, 2012 at 11:30 am

He’s not talking about the “stamp”. He’s talking about the hypocrisy of Redknapp whining about Mancini waving red cards because “he is trying to get players sent off”. Redknapp then starts whining on live TV and trying to get a retrospective red applied to a player.

Whats worse, “waving an imaginary card from the side of the pitch in the heat of the moment” or “deliberately making pre-meditated comments on live TV after the match”. He is attempting to influence any FA decision process before it starts. FWIW, I think it was a stamp, I’m just annoyed with the blatant hypocrisy as much as the author.

Fifthcolumnblue January 23, 2012 at 11:30 am

Spurs were guilty of believing their own hype – so much so that they genuinely though all they had to do was stroll into the Etihad and the three points were a formality. Did anyone watch Match of the Day 2? There was not a second of footage of an incident involving Spurs until Savic’s mistake gifted them the opening goal. Know why that is? Because Spurs were not in the game until that moment. City deserved this win, and the bursting of the bubble that had been inflated by the London-based media, ‘arry the (alleged) tax dodger and the Spurs players has really hurt them. Deep down the Spurs players fans and manager know that this was your one shot of staying even remotely in the title race – and you blew it. The lashing out at the referee, balotelli, lescott, and all things “Big Bad City” is not unexpected, but just makes the Spurs look like what they are – a bunch of small time wannabes who haven’t got the bottle to go the distance. Pfffft goes the sound of the deflation, and that will continue with ‘arry’s 2-3 week (and hopefully longer) absence.

ming the merciless January 23, 2012 at 11:42 am

at no time did mario turn round to see who had tripped him up and at no time does he actually see who has tackled him!…are you all saying that mario has eyes in the back of his head?..he was falling down and i dont know about you but when im falling i stamp my foot down to get my balance!…we all know that the f.a will ban mario cos they have a hidden agenda to stop manchester city at all costs!

Roger January 23, 2012 at 11:46 am

If Balotelli had done this disgraceful act, anywhere other than a football pitch, he would be charged by the Police of a very offence.
How can anyone with the slightest degree of intelligence support this thug. My daughter who is an avid supporter of city was horrified by this act, and any city supporter who condones this sort of behaviour, is a disgrace to city.

Happy To Be Blue January 23, 2012 at 11:48 am

I was disappointed by the actions of Ballotelli and I refuse to defend such unnecessary behaviour. However, he is not the first to do this and he certainly won’t be the last.

I do agree though that Spurs were very bullish going into the game with their manager AND players making derogatory remarks about Mancini and City in general so I feel no sympathy for ‘Arry or Spurs.

As Dave Whelan said only last week, Mancini is a gentleman and aside from a couple of card waving incidents (that players do verbally ALL the time) has behaved impeccably throught his tenure at City.

Harry was very irate after the game. I think he was just stressed because his title charge has been ended the week before he’s up before the plod for allegedly evading his tax payments.

MCFCC&G January 23, 2012 at 11:49 am

north london has gone v quiet. Another trophyless season me thinks. Yeehaa.

All they got now is a court case and trying to stop Chelski overtaking them, so so sad.

You actually thought you could match us, joke team and joke fans and a thief manager.

MCFCC&G January 23, 2012 at 11:51 am

he he he

its all gone quiet over there, its all gone…………….

Mystical Mike January 23, 2012 at 11:52 am

I actually thought Spurs were the better team, and thats coming from an Arsenal fan, as for us, Wenger has to go. We’ve procrastinated under him. Enough is enough.

Balotelli is a nasty piece of work, but he comes up with the goods, he’s still young. As for Parker, quite possibly the best defensive midfielder in the league, I wish we signed him

Colin January 23, 2012 at 12:06 pm

The point of the article is the hypocrisy demonstrated by Redknapp, who in making his comments on the television , has deliberately sought to get the player punished.

If the stamp was deliberate, then Balotelli deserves and will no-doubt face a ban which is the same end product which ‘Arry claims Mancini to be guilty of trying to achieve.

The ” media darling ” may soon be facing bigger claims of hypocrisy in his protestations of ” honesty and fairness ” if his weeks in Southwark don’t go well , and that would indeed be a fitting resume of the gentleman .

matman January 23, 2012 at 12:10 pm

football is a mans game kids. go hard or go home and stop crying about shit that has no bearing on the fact that spurs are going to win nothing. again.
ballotelli was tryng to balance himself after another of scott parkers *ahem* “good” tackles.
To be honest, the elbow on Kaboul was a bigger shout for a red, but was barely mentioned.
the very fact that you were talked about as title contenders is laughable, this season has been a 2 horse race from the off. you can fight it out for 3rd and 4th with the arse and bin dippers, and thats IF fat ‘arry can keep himself out of prison today!!! (which would be a bigger injustice than a red card not being given if were honest)

john January 23, 2012 at 12:15 pm

Lets hope the courts are strong enough to send this tax fiddler
where he belongs and get him out of the media for a year or two
sick of seeing him even sicker of hearing him.

philbones January 23, 2012 at 1:07 pm

‘he’s done it before and he’ll do it again’ – you can’t say things like that Arry or you’ll be up in court for character assination aswell heheh.

Top of the league January 23, 2012 at 1:34 pm

Spot on article. Its opinion whether mario falling over scott ‘still tucks his shirt in’ Parker was intentional or not. Its not fact. We are top of the league, we created more chances in the game and deserved to win – end of. Redknapp is a hypocrite for what he said after the match. Unlucky you southern wankers.

lonanlad January 23, 2012 at 2:55 pm

Redknap apart from being hypocritical is just a tax cheating cockney spiv and god help the FA if they ever consider him for the England manager

MCFCC&G January 23, 2012 at 3:32 pm

Roberto Mancini lost his voice in the frantic second half of the 3-2 win over Spurs… and the rest of us were pretty speechless too.

Apart from Harry Redknapp, of course, who had plenty to say about Mario Balotelli’s apparent stamp on Scott Parker.

He thinks it’s wrong, but he didn’t think it was that wrong when Tom Huddlestone stamped on Bolton’s Johan Elmander a couple of seasons ago, and escaped an FA charge. Two days later Redknapp was claiming he hadn’t seen it – five minutes after the Balotelli incident he had seen it from all angles!

If Mancini had a little less class, he might point that out to Harry.

Instead, it looks increasingly like Balotelli will face a four-match ban – and the offence did look a bad one.

But all the witch-hunters out there should be searching their own cupboards for skeletons.

Paul January 23, 2012 at 3:35 pm

Never a stamp in a million years he was spinning and falling and just trying to stay upright. Why did King not receive a red for his tackle in the box ?

Mavrick007 January 23, 2012 at 3:41 pm

malspur your talking rubbish just like spurs are rubbish, and parker should have been sent off first half for is dirty fouls, also vander vart was no better a dirty fouling git. spurs not in the same class has city, you will be looking for a new manager after he will be found guilty of tax avasion.

gastrobiker January 23, 2012 at 3:47 pm

Helloworld!

kun>messi January 23, 2012 at 4:38 pm

Well said author, Balotelli didn’t even see the man behind him, Parker should have been off the pitch by then anyway for persistent fouling and a horror lunge on Richards in the 1st half.

Jules January 23, 2012 at 5:42 pm

You have to feel sorry for Harry…all that noise last week re mancini and waving cards and then losing his last chance at a title before his team is broken up again losing Bale and Modric in the summer and he tries to jump ship to the England job….he must be furious..pay your taxes Harry like the rest of us and stop whingeing I used to have more respect you are starting to sound like red nose!

Wigan Blue January 23, 2012 at 10:17 pm

‘Arry’s grouse that Balotelli shouldn’t have been on the pitch to get dragged to the ground for the penalty is just so hypocritical it’s untrue. Parker should have had two yellows and a red, and not been on the pitch by halftime. Now Ballotelli’s got to “appeal” to the FA, NOT to get banned for four matches. He should turn up at FA headquarters with a bunch of lawyers and get a restraining order put out on their disciplinary panel on the grounds that they’re a national joke…

Dave D January 23, 2012 at 11:31 pm

Only thing I want to pick up on is the fact that Parker has been described as thuggish.

I am a fan of Parker but yesterday he was ‘thuggish’ and right before Balotelli stamped on him and it was a stamp, Parker should have seen his second yellow for wiping Barry out on the half way line, saying that he shoukd have gone long before that.

So to say Balotelli should not have been on the pitch to score the pen, perhaps Parker should’nt have been on it to get stamped on if you want to take that route.

I am a disgusted with Mario and he is lucky Parkers head was not a bit further under his boot because he could have caused life long lasting damage, I totally back the charge on him.

There is no point in being bitter about it and bickering though, its swings and roundabouts, I would like to see somebody point out that maybe we got the penalty because of a terrible attempt of a tackle by King and not because Mario was still on the pitch.

Quester January 24, 2012 at 12:02 am

I can’t believe how many so called fans are acting as judge and jury and condemning the man before he is even found guilty! My god, whatever happened to democracy and the right to innocence until proven guilty? Both the FA and Referees in general have already been proven incompetent and lacking in any consistency this season, yet almost everyone is content to bay for Mario’s blood!! In China the law is that you are guilty of a crime until you can prove your innocence, but this isn’t China (thank your lucky stars all of you), and here (both the UK and the US) the law states that you must be proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

I don’t think any fair-minded person can say that there is not a reasonable doubt in this case, since the lad was falling, and had a push in the back from a Spurs player at the same time (very few seem to have noticed that!). If anything I would say this is just a case of a very weak organization (the FA) trying to jump on the bandwagon in an attempt to make themselves look good and redress the balance on some of the major gaffes and double-standards they have shown to date, oh and it really helps that it is a City player too, because anything that helps the cause of the ‘old guard’ is a bonus!
