Not Another Mata Saga Please Arsene!

Here we go again. Its that time again when we hope, wish and cross our fingers that Arsene buys new players, but we have learned from past experiences to not expect much from Arsenal when it comes to the transfer market.

Which in it’s self is not good for any fan. Because Arsenal is a big club and we have two Billionaire Majority share holders, One of them seems willing to invest heavily and the Other one seems to only be interested in making a profit.

But I personally believe that you need to spend money to make money.

Even though we finished third last season. It was there for all to see that we were just not good enough.
Since when was Arsenal a team that just competes? Because that’s what I think we have become. Hate it or not! Who can blame RvP? I’d hate it if he left but I would understand.

Until the Powers that be at Arsenal decide to spend some serious money. Or to at least bring in some fresh faces at the club nothing will change. Podolski is only one man and we need more. Slowly but surely we are losing money and global appeal from not winning anything for almost a decade.

Everyone is sure or hoping that We are the favorites to sign Yann M’vila but who knows. Chelsea are reinforcing, what happens when they join the race too.

Why can’t we just give Rennes and M’vila what they want. Gone are the days when we would get players just because we were THE ARSENAL.

Times have changed and so should we. Let’s hope we change our frugal ways before its too late.

It’s not possible to stay on the cutting edge in ANY businees without forwards thinking, investment in the products and building a generic mystique about the product (ie coke a cola). Where our club has gone wrong is on two fronts. The mystique is declining, the magic of the club is dimming. Many fans of other clubs see what is happening and stare in disbelief. The investment in the product itself…the football, is declining. No business can stay at the cutting edge doing that. WE are beginning to be seen in a negative light due to some of the club choices. We are a club always two or three players short of challenging. Trouble is unlike true businesses who research how to stay at the top we have the suits Kroenke/Gazidis who could turn a blue sky grey, and bore this beloved club to death.
Tody June 5, 2012 at 3:06 pm: Hey, I understand your frustration, however, the transfer business is too complicated to call…to many parties involved, the most difficult ones being the greedy agents…they are the ones who have told most targets to wait until end of Euros so they coul spark a bidding war..

RobM June 5, 2012 at 3:14 pm: I don’t think any european clubs, or european ‘name’ players will be keen to move before the Euros.

There’s absolutely no reason for them to rush to move because their value – both the cost the clubs can ask for and the size of the contract they can ask for are likely to go up if the player has a good tournament – and the player will certainly believe in themselves enough to think that’s going to happen, right?

And their coaches, their managers will all be at the Euros – acting as pundits, scouting players… maybe even enjoying a chance to watch football as spectators for a change.

It might be worth us all remembering that when we ask why more deals haven’t been signed yet.

What you say is so true. Take a list of the players we have been associated with and see where they end up.
Hazard —- Chelsea
Kagawa —– Man Utd
Vertonghen —– probably Tottenham (wont be Arsenal)
Yann M’Vila —- we will see
Marvin Martin
Lucas Biglia
Etienne Capou
Christian Eriksen
Olivier Giroud
Seydou Doumbia
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
I guarantee not one of these players will come to Arsenal, with the exception perhaps of a hysterical late transfer window bid for M’Vila.
What is ruining this club is that the scrip has already been written. If we are really honest the trio of Kroenke/Gazidis/Wenger have become boring, unimaginative, and slow to do ANYTHING. Wenger has changed his tune by first making a statement of intent to buy, and then saying he was not going to buy. He won’t buy, and we will drop another notch.

And don’t even start to believe everything you read in the papers. Hazard has been the talking horse of this close season but to me he doesn’t really look cut out for the Premier League. Mata went to Chelsea and achieved very little (by the way where did Chelsea finish in the EPL?). Vertonghen would have to sit on the bench at Arsenal. No-one has suggested an interest by Arsenal in Kagawa. No-one had heard of Doumbia until a week or so ago.
The media work hard very to get readership by inventing spurious stories about players Arsenal might buy, most of whom are over-hyped and unknown to Arsenal supporters and then creating negative nonsense about them ‘snubbing’ the club. Arsenal’s policy is never to comment on players they are interested in. Perhaps you should all do the same.

A transition season? A negligence season. We lost the league before the season began. Arsene did not buy players until we had been trounced by Man Utd etc. Then there was a frenzy of last minute transfer activity. You have made your own truth up and spouting it as reality. It was good to finish third but we were fortunate. Did you watch the West Brom game…we were lucky? We depended one player to make a season. The REAL fans want to see the team improve. Of course fans want to see transfer activity…they know the team is not good enough.
Arsenal-Mart June 6, 2012 at 12:04 am: From my understanding from previous seasons is that only 70% of net sales of players are made available to buy new players and the total wages must not be over 50% of the total annual income of the club? I believe this is the financial model (restrictions) that Arsene wenger has?
So this coming season may bring in some extra signings, as there are funds in the transfer kitty from last seasons sales of Fab & Nasri.
Our problem may be that our total wage bill is one of the highest in the premiere league! We have one of the largest playing staff and we seem to over pay average players! We buy young players and need to loan most of them out? It seems like the older players that have not been in wenger plans need to be sold or loaned out to lower the wages before we commit to higher wages on better players?
We are also restricted on money that is owed on the stadium with intrest repayment of around £20 Million per annum and a poor kit sponsorship deal that is not up for renewal until June 2014, we are around £10 Million per annum worse off than Utd, City & Chelsea and around £6 Million behind Spurs!
We also are way behind the likes of Real Madrid & Barsa on TV money, the Spanish clubs negotiate there own TV deal around £150 Million per annum around £70 million more than us! No wonder Barsa have come Knocking at our door in the past for our best players?
If we can pay off the stadium loan in the next few years and with the financial fair play coming into effect we will be in a strong position to compete?
I agree with all of you that it would seem to be a very good year to invest in at least THREE NEW FIRST TEAM QUALITY SIGNINGS.
So come on Arsenal, we need to be challenging for the Premier League, CL & FA Cup

Worse still is that all our sponorship deals/corporate contracts are up for renewal in the next 18 months … and if any on the money-making orientated board think that we are gonna attract top dollar for our next set of contracts without on-field success, they are delusional !!
I think this consideratio alone GIVES us some reason to be slightly optimistic, if only a little. I do believe that we’ll see at least 8/9 players leave and at least four to five players come in ?

goonerob June 6, 2012 at 11:20 am: We do need to boost the squad with 1 or 2 more quality players but as some have pointed out we are linked to this player and that player by the media without any confirmation from Arsenal. I am sure (or hope) that we will strengthen before the start of the season and with players returning from injury we will be stronger and better able to challenge. We do however need to change what many perceive to be our transfer strategy, we dither and dally over what amounts to a few pounds and then lose the player to a club that acts swiftly. M’Vila would appear to be just what we need but we pussy foot around the player instead of going in and getting it sorted quickly before anyone else gets involved. We have 2 billionaires on board, Usmanov would, I am sure, put in whatever was needed to fund the purchase of whomever was needed or wanted, we should take advantage of his massive wealth if only for one season. My final point is that we have been in decline since David Dein left and should be brought back to get us back to where we belong.

makes me angry! I spend around 20%-30% of my annual income following my team and i’m starting to get fucked off with the rising costs year in year out, constantly rising. I will love my club for the rest of my life and they have provided with some of my most treasured memories, but i can no longer watch as we get fed bull**** from people who care only for their bank balances. I have stood by and defended my ONCE great team sticking up for Wenger and even gazidis but i cant do it anymore. Its got to point with the fans arguing the board seemingly bothered by money and profit, it makes me wonder who would sign for us right now??? we preach about sustainability and while we might be finacially you cant tell me they way the fans and board conduct themselves is hardly sustainable and a model every club should adhere too.
i never thought i would say this but i wish Usmanov had boght the club while dein was fronting red and white holdings…. no Kronke, no GAZIDIS (if only!) and plenty of investment…………(what has the world of a gooner come too??)

June 6, 2012 at 1:36 pm: It is sad 2 say but nothing is going to change..fact. arsenal haven’t won anything in d last 7 yrs and it doesnt seem 2 bother d authorities…3rd and fourth seems 2 be gud enough for them…as for me I watch the 2003/2004 season highlight to give me some respite….coz a lot need 2 change about how arsenal operate n come to think that doesnt look likely…its going 2 b another long season make no mistake about it…
