Struggling a bit this week trying to drop some E’s into the mix, oioi!! So only got a couple but feel free to add some. To make up for the lack of players, I’ve put some goal action in here for you, and not may come better than Brazilian Eders efforts at 82. Éder Aleixo de Assis was a star of the brilliant Brazil team that missed out in Spain despite it being one of the finest collection of players ever assembled. Eder stunned audiences in the first match with a brilliant teed up flick and volley past Russia’s keeper that was copied in many a playground the next day. Then they thrashed the jocks in the 2nd game 4-1 with a sublime chipped corker courtesy of Eder. The tricky left-winger was unlucky with a few long range set plays, which earned him his “cannon” nickname. Unfortunately, that tourno was the highlight of his career, 4 years later, his party lifestyle took its toll and he was struggling for form for club and country. It didn’t help that he was in trouble for pushing over a ball boy just before Mexico 86. Di Canio was probably a big fan. Check out the final goal in the clip, it’s the Brazil Nuts!

My top E is reserved for a truly fantastic player. Eusabio, The Black Pearl and Portugal’s finest ever export (Although Ronny will be wanting a word about that if he keeps performing). Eugenio da Silva Ferreira also known as the Black Panther was named European Footballer a year before the 66 WC and scored an incredible 727 in 715, read that again without blinking! Born of Mozambiqican origin, he was regarded as one of the planets first black world-class strikers. He moved from Paputo in Africa to Portugal in his teens and joined Benfica where he won the European Cup in 62 and was runner up in 63 ,65 and 68 (He also won the European golden boot in 68). It was at the 1966 World Cup that he really looked the business. He was named player of the tournament and scored 9 in just 6 matches!!! He nabbed a penalty against us in the semi to boot but it wasn’t enough for Portugal…. apples!!!

He was so good at that World Cup, Madame Tussauds got a waxwork made shortly after the finals. Portugal failed to qualify for the next 2 finals but 41 goals in 64 internationals say it all, The Black Pearly Panther was a class act and World Cup Legend. F’s next week.

I think you’ll find, it’s actually Eusebio. Also known as the European Pele.
