Another 12 months of Ryan Giggs

Describing Ryan Giggs is easy – Premiership Legend. The Welshman has been terrorising defences since before The Premiership was created and has won every club honour available at his disposal. He has played with and against the greats of the footballing world so the news that Giggs has signed a traditional 12 month contract extension with the current league leaders is excellent news for fans and players of Manchester United and, most importantly, Giggs himself.

Despite spending part of his youth on the books at Manchester City, it is with the red half of the city that the Welshman made a name for himself.

Age hasn’t hindered Giggs as he continues to make his mark on defences up and down the country, although it isn’t from his favoured left-wing position of the 90’s and early millennium, he has taken his position change to centre like a duck to water. His change on the field has enabled the former Wales international to chalk up 800+ appearances in a United shirt and is the first player to rack up 600 Premier League appearances.

Giggs, clearly delighted on his contract extension, went on to say “All I’ve ever wanted to do is play for United and I’ve been lucky enough to do that for 20 years.

“It is great to know I’m still contributing to the team’s success. I feel I’ve got a lot to offer on and off the pitch. This is an exciting time to be involved with so many good, young players coming through (the ranks).”

Equally as delighted as the Welshman is the man who introduced him to the United starting XI as Sir Alex Ferguson added “You run out of words to describe Ryan Giggs. He (Giggs) is a marvellous player and a wonderful man.

“To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level in such a physically demanding position at his ages requires a special person. He is still turning in man-of-the-match performances and his (Giggs) experience is so vital for the younger players in the squad.”

Even if you’re not a fan of Manchester United, it’s hard to not be a fan of Ryan Giggs. A model professional, in my opinion, and one that youth players of the game should look up to when it comes to pro-longing the most successful of careers so I, for one, am looking forward to another 12 months of the Welsh Wizard plying his trade at the highest level.
