Lionel Messi scored twice and made another as Barcelona thrashed Real Valladolid 4-0 at the Camp Nou to retain their La Liga title, sending Valladolid down in the process.

Real Madrid could only draw 1-1 with Malaga, meaning Pep Guardiola’s side ended the season with a new La Liga record of 99 points; three points clear of the fiercest rivals.

90,000 fans filled the stadium knowing that victory with give the Catalans their 20th league title.

Real Madrid will no doubt step up their attempts to appoint Inter Milan’s Jose Mourinho after the Italian champions sealed their fifth consecutive Serie A title.

I’m chuffed for Barcelona. It’s a great achievement in view of the amount of money Real Madrid splashed out last summer.

Me too, same old Galacticos, let’s buy sh*it loads of attackers and a couple of defenders. Saying that, only 3 points in it though. Take away Messi for a month and it may have been a different story.

Messi equalled Barca’s goal-scoring record for one season (tied with Brazilian Ronaldo)…. 47 in one season! And he isnt even a striker. He also has 17 assists. Most in La Liga.
