Wojciech Szczesny
If it weren’t for the young Polish keeper, Arsenal would be bottom of the league. Szczesny has been pulling off world class saves in each and every Gunners match this season.
A- – How long before his head is turned?

Bacary Sagna
Sagna has been Arsenal’s best defender this season, which isn’t really saying much. Excellent going forward but can still be found out of position. A horrific injury now sees the Frenchman out until 2012.
B – When fit, more concentration needed

Thomas Vermaelen
There’s no doubting that the Verminator is a class act. One of the only players with genuine authority. Problem is, Vermaelen is into his 3rd season with the Gunners, most of that has been spent on the injury table.
E+ – Must stay fit

Per Mertesacker
The German has added much needed experience to a fragile backline. Unfortunately the Premier League is way too fast for him. Often used as Arsene Wenger’s plan B, which shows how desperate the Gunners really have become.
D+ – Should have signed Cahill

Laurent Koscielny
On his day, the Frenchman is a decent player, but nothing more. The fact Wenger spent 10m on him really shows how naïve he is defensively.
D – more concentration needed

Kieran Gibbs
Gibbs has the potential to be an excellent left-winger, which is exactly where he should play. Has pace to burn with a superb left foot. Constantly out of position and like all Arsenal defenders lacks discipline.
C- – More work on the training ground

Sebastien Squillaci
The Frenchman has been injured all season, which is a massive relief to every Gunners fan. By far the poorest defender in the league. Makes Pascal Cygan look world class.
U – Don’t hurry back

Carl Jenkinson
You’ve got to feel for the kid. Signed from league one after making just seven appearances for Charlton. Thrown in at the deep end due to the manager’s inept ability to sign quality back up defenders.
E – Completely out of his depth

Johan Djourou
Last season, the Swiss defender was one of Arsenal’s most improved performers. To say he lacks concentration is an under statement. Out of position, off the pace, often diving into to tackles has cost him his place in a very, very poor Arsenal back line.
E – Stop smoking weed
