Arsenal haven’t got players to change system for Barca

What did you and the Arsenal players used to do to socialise?

What do you think about the recent revelations on Andy Carroll’s night life?

When we used to go out…you know, I wasn’t one of the regulars. I went out with the guys occasionally. We’d go out into the centre of London and you’d go for a drink and you never really got pestered, whereas now because footballers are like superstars it’s much more high profile. The players today really can’t go out and drink the amount that we used to drink, and that’s the modern game; a lot of players and teams were going out drinking, now they’re not.

You’d soon get found out in terms of your fitness now if you were going out all the time. I think it’s changed also with the foreign players coming in, they’re not like that. It’s more of an English culture to go out and have a few beers.

Andy Carroll won’t have a problem, I think he’ll get educated at Liverpool that yes, you can go out and have a drink, but it’s what you do while you’re out that’s far more important and what people will be interested in what you’re doing.

Has the Playstation generation had an effect on team spirit at Arsenal?

I don’t think it’s as sociable when you see a lot of the players turning up with ipods and headphones on. I’m not sure there’s as much banter going on. Listen, that’s the way they prepare and you have to realise that that’s the way the world moves forward. Personally it’s something I don’t like seeing, when the players are walking down the tunnel with this stuff on. I think it should be put away when they come off the coach. They can put it back on in the dressing rooms if they like, but that’s just the way the world is.

As a player you always get lots of privileges because everything’s organised for you anyway…I think you learn a lot more when you step away from the game, and you realise what a privilege it was to play football.

What do Arsenal need to change when they play Barcelona this time?

I don’t think Arsenal will change because I don’t think they’ve got the players or the know how to change what they’re going to do. I think what you have to do is restrict, somehow, Barcelona moving the ball quickly. Maybe Arsenal might press higher up the pitch, take that bit of a risk and try and push Barcelona back when Arsenal have got the ball.

I mean, here [Emirates] last year Barca were sensational not only with the ball, which is what everyone talks about, but when they lost the ball they closed Arsenal down so quickly, and if Arsenal can learn from that then hopefully they can give Barcelona a game.

It’s a new year, so we shouldn’t just look back and assume Barcelona are going to come here and do the same thing, we just don’t know yet. I think it’s going to be a great game.

i hate to break it to you, i really shouldnt be the one to do this but Forrest Gump is not real. He was a character in a film played by an actor.
I hope sometime in the near future you can get over this dissapointment.

I agree. I’m a die hard Arsenal fan, as I’ve been since I was about 3 years old. I go to 90% of the games, and Arsenal haven’t shown anything to me this season to suggest we have a fraction of a chance against Barca.

    We’re gonna get killed. 3/4-0 :(.
