Arsenal would be so stupid not to sign Demba Ba in January.

Newcastle United top scorer Demba Ba has remained coy on the chances of Arsene Wenger coming in for his signature in January, but it would beggar belief if the North London club choose to turn their noses up at the 27 year-old Senegalese international.

Ba has a fantastic record in the Premier League, scoring 34 goals in 65 league games and would surely take the pressure off Olivier Giroud to deliver week after week up front.

Of course, Arsenal are known for their reluctance to splash out in the transfer window, but with Newcastle occupying a lowly 15th in the Premier League table and a long slog in the Europa League ahead, it would hardly be surprising for Ba to look elsewhere for a fresh challenge. A £7.5m offer would trigger the release clause and release the striker from his contract.

When talking to French radio station RMC, Ba said:
“It is true that [Arsenal] is a club that attracts every footballer. If it’s better for me to go, I will. It is better to go somewhere where there are a lot of French, because it fits much more easily.”

This is a real ‘come and get me’ plea from Ba and Wenger would be a fool for not signing him. Senegal have been disqualified from the Africa Cup of Nations so Ba could go straight into the Arsenal starting XI which would offer respite for Giroud after the frantic Christmas period.

The striker has been the target of several transfer bids in the past from Stoke and QPR. However, I believe that Ba would fit in brilliantly at Arsenal and would offer a real direct goal-scoring threat which is sometimes lacking. Man City have shown that it is important to have a plan B in the Premier League and Ba would be very effective when Arsenal’s passing and possession game has proved unsuccessful at breaking opposition defences down.

With Cisse and Ameobi showing real glimpses of class for the first time this season in the last few weeks, I feel that Newcastle would not begrudge a move as much as people think.
Granted, Ba has had his fair share of knee injuries in the past and Arsenal may even need to insure the striker’s knee which could be costly. But once they get over the little add on’s which are a part of football today, then they’ll have themselves a bargain.

No, No, No!! A bargain is Lorente – even if we have to pay 25mil. He is a powerful 20 goal a season striker, can hold the ball up and link up play and make assists. Sadly, AW will by no one or a lesser player.

  • Michael Somerville

But Arsenal will not pay £15m+ for anyone unfortunately! Ba is a realistic option that will take the pressure off Giroud

  • Jack B

Not to be rude but 25 million for Llorente is a bit far fetched at most we will be paying £10 million, I would say (due to his cut price as he has confirmed eh will not sign a new contract) that we could potentially bag a bargain for him as most feel he will go for only 6 million. Cheaper, more experienced and prolific than Ba and they could potentially play together, which would also bring more options a chance of a new formation, and something Wenger has never really had; Strength in depth.

Stupid? To spend £7.5m on a player who cant train ‘cos of a dodgy knee and will be FREE in the summer.

Only one person that’s stupid here – and that’s you.

  • MistaKen

Your may be right but Ba is a slight risk because of his reported knee problem – though misteriously it hasn’t materialised

ba is not a free agent in the summer so its u whos stupid try 18mnths left n he has quoted he ois not ready to leave mre crappy journalism

he yes he does train ur comments and facts are wrong

  • supreme

If Arsenal buy Ba they can even be to have a striker to trouble BM defence in the Uefa Giroud I’m afraid he is too much underpressure he won’t be able to score more thn Ba can

  • jossywise

yes, we need him. Llorente or not Ba has playd in Epl, he has d experience, moreover llorente has zd that he will not leave until d end of d season. Mr. AW, give us Ba.

  • m.nalla

  • Sukuruni

Well wenger is stupid and stubborn, senile to be exact

  • chris

    Ba is a no-brainer, providing he doesn’t expect RVP’s pay-grade.
Llorente is very similar to Giroud, though if we get Ba now, would be a great freebie in the summer.
