Benitez Confident of More Torres Goals

Chelsea’s Champions League defence may have ended at the first hurdle but at least their 6-1 defeat of Nordsjaelland of Denmark has ensured that they leave the competition with some pride. In addition to this, their victory also saw Fernando Torres return to goalscoring form after a near 10-hour dry spell and whilst new manager Rafael Benitez may not be popular with the fans he could still bring the best out of the Spaniard.

Since joining Chelsea for £50million in January 2011 Torres has failed to live up to his price tag among those who bet on premier league goalscorers but Benitez seems to be blaming his lack of goals on the contribution of those around him and he is more than happy with his attitude and work rate “He showed his desire and his quality. If we play at that level he will score more goals. The team was playing well and if we play well he will score goals” Benitez said.

Torres’ brace against Nordsjaelland was the first time he has scored more than one goal in a game since his hat-trick against QPR last April but Benitez seems confident that this won’t be another false dawn for the 28-year old.

According to Benitez, he has seen a real change in Torres off the field and he is no doubt delighted that this has resulted in goals. “I was watching him training and he was very, very sharp with more confidence” the Chelsea boss told football betting news reporters.

Whether Torres lack of form over the last two years has been down to his manager, his team mates or the weight of expectation caused by his transfer fee remains unclear. But, if Torres has finally turned a corner, then it could be just in time to turn around a fruitless season at Stamford Bridge.
