Cech Delighted with Response

Petr Cech was delighted with how the Czech Republic responded to their defeat to Russia with a vital 2-1 victory against Greece, in the second game of their Euro 2012 campaign.
The Czechs got their Group A campaign off to a shocking start, with a 4-1 defeat to the Russians, a team well-fancied in the odds for Euros at Bet Victor.

However, they rallied themselves as they secured three points from their second group match against Greece. Tournament co-hosts, Poland, now stand between the Czech Republic and a place in the quarterfinals, with Russia looking likely to go through as Group A winners.

While the victory was a major boost to the Czech’s hopes, Cech’s form in goal may be a worry to the team. The Chelsea stopper has looked shaky during the opening two games of his team’s campaign, conceding four against Russia, and making a shocking error, as the Greeks grabbed a goal back in the second game.

The 30-year old has bounced back from mistakes in the past, however, and he has made it clear that he was just pleased to come out of the Greece match with the three points.

“If you don’t do well, it is unpleasant. But the following day, after the Russia defeat, each of us knew it was behind us. We had two matches to turn things around,” Cech admitted.

“We had been under pressure and needed to win. In the end, we have the three points on board, and that’s excellent. We have made the first step, and now there are 90 minutes against Poland.”
