Chelsea and Man City to battle for Bayern striker

Mario Gomez will be at the centre of a bidding war this summer as Manchester City and Chelsea aim to bring the much coveted striker to their respective clubs report Bild.

Poacher Gomez, 27 has endured a disappointing season at Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich having only made 16 appearances all season. The German striker has been kept out of the starting eleven by the excellent Mario Mandzukic who has led the line for Bayern this season.

Considered one of the best natural finishers in the game, Gomez has proved his prolific nature in front of goal for the last two seasons, scoring 26 league goals in 2011-2012 and 28 league goals in 2010-2011.

It is possible that City and Chelsea could offer strikers Fernando Torres and Edin Dzeko as makeweights in a deal, otherwise the fee would be around £30m.

Gomez’ agent has spoken out about his unhappiness at being a bit-part player for the Bavarian champions, opening the door for a possible move away to England.
