Liverpool vs Manchester United

These two North West cities with rich cultural history have been battling on all fronts since the industrial age. Both claim to be the bigger and better City. But in recent years football has dominated, the rivalry has been so intense that not one player has been transferred between the clubs in 45 years.

Nasty moments
In recent meetings sending’s off have been plenty with Nemanja Vidic and Javier Mascherano both seeing red in consecutive seasons. Both sides have had their share of hardmen over the years with Bryan Robson, Steve MaMahon, Roy Keane & Jamie Carragher to name but a few.

Liverpool fans taunt United with chants over the Munich air disaster while United respond with intelligent chants about Hillsborough, not the most pleasant of experiences but far less violent then any derby seen in Turkey, Argentina or Eastern Europe.

Any agro?
An ambulance carrying Alan Smith was attacked by Liverpool fans who threw bricks as it drove away.

Head to head
Both teams have 18 league titles each, although Liverpool are yet to win the Premier League, which United have won 11 times. Liverpool have the edge with 5 European cups to United’s 3, however, United have 11 FA cups to Liverpool’s 7.
