It’s been banter central in the UKFF Towers since those muppets from the PFA announced their Man United team of the season. So with no further a do, here’s my alternative team of the season. You’ll be pleased to note that not one Man United player has made my 11.

Dexy's team of the season

Palacios in CM would be decent. Flew under radar a bit at Wigan but has been different class since he arrived at Spurs. Makes you realise just how bad Zokora really is.

Also I reckon Jasskelinan (sp?) could give Schwarzer a close run. He makes a huge amount of saves in a team that gives away many many chances.

Other than that, and taking into account how gash Robinho has been away from Eastlands, I’d say the above team is a solid shout.

I’d actually say William Gallas, after his temper tantrum’s he has been superb, best defence in the league this year!

  • Darren

I also think there hasn’t been one forward that stands out, hence why Dexy was forced to do a 4-5-1 formation. I’m will Patrick, he has been woeful away from home

  • James Webb

I disagree, I think that Kevin Davies who has scored 12 goals from an outside right position has had a great season for bolton. He is such a handful and i’m surprised he hasnt been called up for England considering Capello likes playing a big man upfront.

Also surprised no Villa players are in the team. I know they have struggled of late but for a large part of the season they pushed Arsenal for 4th place and with the smallest squad in the premiership.

David Moyes has done a great job with Everton with Feillani really impressing me

  • Matt Quinn

I agree with James Webb….. as much as the PFA awards rewarded those who had a good start to the season, this team seems to award those who have had a good end. Ie. No Villa players.

To be honest though, i think its a good team. I’d make a couple of changes tho.

Sagna. Most Arsenal fans i know think he has gone backwards. Ashley Young has tore him to pieces twice this season. Luke Young at Villa has had a superb season and deserves to be the team.

I also will never rate Matt Taylor…. nice left foot, but thats about it. Like Kevin Nolan before him, he has scored a few from midfield but that doesnt make him a top quality midfielder.

Finally, totally agree with Robinho being in there. I dont understand why people dont rate him. They must have been blinded by his price tag. Debut season and joint 2nd top scorer in the premier league. I dont think he will ever be truly world class but he is a very very good player.

Also, i’d try and get Arteta in there somewhere too.

Alexandre Song perhaps? Or maybe Simon Davies who started and played 52 games in a row untill last week (he was injured)- that’s professionalism.

    Good team though

robinho not worldclass what u been watching game with lemon eyes! did u see his goal aginst italy single handedly taking on the italy defence with ease and scoring a nice finish, he’s only played for real madrid aswell and regular in brazil team. thats wolrd class. im a west brom fan and second half season i’d say brunt’s done well but 2 put him in your team of the season means u want your head checking m8. can’t be botherede to dispute no more so im gonna put my team here; schwarzer, bosingwa, ferdinand, vidic, evra, ireland, xabi alonso, carrick, robinho, gerrard, ronaldo

  • Darren

Gary mate, read the article, the team is chosen from non Man Utd & PFA nominated players.

It’s not all about the big 4, as you should know supporting a championship club.

As for Song, not to sure, he’s definitely one of the most improved players, along with Stephen Ireland.

  • Joel

Spurs have the best home defensive record in the league, i think Gomes deserves a mention – yes he had a HORRIFIC start, but so its a testament to his attitude and his ability that he is on the cusp of setting a new record at WHL this year. Well played ‘The Octopus’.

  • Darren

I couldn’t believe that stat when I heard it, only 9 home goals conceded, rule number 1 when picking yr fantasy league team, NEVER PICK A SPURS DEFENDER!

Didn’t they go something like 70 games without a 0-0 before this season? All credit to Harry, he’s done an amazing job and must be just behind Moyes & Hodgson for manager of the season.

Gonna put Beattie on the bench Dexy?
