France

Probably the most hated team in the world (Well certainly in Ireland and my gaff) and also parts of France no less. Raymondo The Dom hasn’t got a scooby about man management and puts some of selections down after looking through Justin toppers stars. With him in charge, I believe they will not get anywhere near the form of 2006 where Zidane dragged them to the final before doing his nutty boy impression. They look good on paper but I can’t see them getting past the last 8.

Ribery gets the nod here. When he’s on his game, he is in the top 5 best wingers in the world and a real handful, it depends if he’s mind is focused on the game though and not some jail-bait in row 13 with pigtails.

Mexico

The 86 hosts just got through after Sven made a right pigs ear of the earlier games. I don’t expect too much from them in June but will look forward to seeing Blanco back in action after coming back from the filming of Hulk 3. They can knock the ball about as well as make good Tequila and gave Fabio a bit of scare a fortnight back outplaying us for much of the first half and scoring through Hammers target man Franco.

Gotta go with Marquez. The Barca defender is one of the most experienced in the world game. Despite the final score last week, the defence is usually quite stingy.

South Africa

The Bafana Bafana have finally got the World Cup Africa has craved for and the carnival spirit will have a lot to do with their progress. They did well at the Confederations Cup last year and with home support could get to the knockout stages. Recent form suggests a decent showing is on the cards especially now they have left Benni McCarthy at home with the hippos. I’ll be cheering them on with my VuVuzela, especially when they face the garlic munchers. Most hosts usually make it through to the knock-outs so they have plenty to aim for.

Steve boy Pienner has really come on of late in The Blue of Everton and will be the lynchpin on which the Nations hopes rest.

Uruguay

The 2 time winners are back although I don’t think a repeat of their 1950 exploits is gonna be happening. When they brought the trophy back, a third of the nation turned up at the airport! Last year, the tough tackling Uruguayan’s struggled in qualifying coming through a play off with the mighty Costa Rica. Their frontline will be a handful for any defence but don’t expect another roadblock at Uruguay’s airport on July 11th, maybe a week earlier when they get knocked out in the last 8, probably by us.

Diego Forlan has been terrorizing defences in La Liga & the Champions League for a few seasons now; he’s bound to get a few goals in this tournament.

PS: RIo has had to go to hospital, he’s just twisted his knee in training, Dawson is on stand-by. B*llocks!

It’s just been confirmed our Captain is out of the World Cup. Up steps Stevie I suppose, or fat Frank.
