Ding Ding! In the red corner, current Champs Manchester Utd on 18 league titles, in the other red corner Liverpool FC on 18 too. To right, if things go as I predict, the title will again go down to the wire as the country prepares for the World Cup. These two will be fighting it out while Chelsea will be heading to the Champs league final. You never know, I wasn’t far of with a few predictions last season although Big Phil was a letdown. Will Anchelotti be better? Will Owen make it past September? Will Wilshire shine? And will Citeh do f-all again? (I sincerely hope so). Here’s my Premiership top 10 top predictions.

10) Fulham
Rwoy the boy was nothing short of English mustard in getting The Craven Cottage lads onto the European trail. That was mostly down to great dressing room spirit, organization and a bloody good defence. When you look at it, Konchesky & Panstil, it hardly strikes you with fear but it did the job without splashing the nelsons. It wasn’t the prettiest football in the league and Fulham wasn’t the place to go for high scoring roller coaster games but it got them points on the board with a limited squad, and that’s what counts. I don’t think they will be as good this year. The European jaunts will take their toll on the West London team and the imminent departure of Hanglaand will leave the Cottages dropping goals like Roy drops his R’s.
Dexy’s Diamond: Danny Murphy

9) West Ham
The Hammers were supposedly taking a gamble last season with the surprise appointment of Little Gianfranco Zola but all is looking rosy in E13. Yes, there is some uncertainty about all the pie and slash going walkies with the Icemen but Zola and Steve Clarke still have a good squad to work with.
Dexy’s Diamond: Robert Green

.8) Man Citeh
Hate them or hate them, The Mancs have spent over £100 million smackers on has beens and rejects. Just like Flavor Flav, Cieth really do believe their own hype, if the league title was won on paper then the delusional tramps of Manchester would be good for a Europa Cup spot.
Dexy’s Diamond: Gareth Barry

7) Villa
Like Tottenham, Villa Have some excellent players in the attacking zone and a vastly improved Petrov in the centre circle but I’m not sure of O’Neills tactics this season with the departure of Barry (Cue Matt Quinn!). O’Neill has brought in Downing who can be a good player on his day but with Ashley, Carew & Agbonlahor up front, is he gonna play 433 with Downing & Milner flanking Petrov? (When Downings fit?). It will look the nuts but surely Petrov can’t do all the tackling in the centre, is Reo- Coker gonna be back or is new Signing Fabien Delph the answer? They need someone to soak it all up, especially after losing the excellent Laursen at the back, Brad Friedal can only do so much between the sticks.
Dexy’s Diamond: James Milner

6) Tottenham
Whatever happened to Juande Ramos? I was tipping him for big chins last summers but he well & truly made a pigs ear of it. Harry to the rescue, leaving Portsmouth in the lurch for the bright lights and lolly of North London of the Magpies. Spurs certainly have the players to get them into Europe and Harry should keep everyone happy with his man-management skills* Goals galore going forward but a bit of a mare at the back with ledley crystal King on borrowed time and pretty much something wrong with every other defender. I fancy Modric (not like that, have you see his boat?!!) to improve this year & young O’Hara to really make his mark in the first team. He looked in heavenly form in pre-season, a bit like his missus Danielle, that I do fancy!
Dexy’s Diamond: Jamie O’Hara
*Except Bentley

5) Everton
Unlike the teams vying for a dig at the top 4, Everton are deffo the best equipped defensively keeping 17 clean sheets last term. Manc City have been sniffing around Lescott and I doubt they would have reached that figure without legoheadscott. If they keep him & Jakielka makes a swift recovery, I can see them again heading the pack behind the Gooners. If only Everton had some decent forwards. Cahill works wonder every season and Fellaini the fro was a big asset last season but they still only managed 16 between them. Injuries to Saha, Anibeche & Yakubu are really holding down the Toffees. They best sort out some dosh for new players soon or Old Trafford will be calling swaying Moyes in the coming seasons.
Dexy’s Diamond: Marouan Fellaini

4) Arsenal
2 weeks ago, I was penciling in Arsenal for 5th. After watching the Emirates cup, I changed my mind. It was beautiful to watch and I think Arsenal be a bit closer to 3rd place than last year. I thought 7 points would separate the top 4 last season, I was one team short. Talking of which, Jack Wilshire is about to take the country by storm and I ain’t talking about Lilliput. Two MOTM displays and Fabio already an admirer, the pint sized youngster caught my eye in the FA Youth Cup a few months back. If Wenger uses him sparingly, with Arshavin on fire and a rejuvenated Eduardo and Theo, all they need is to get the defence sorted and they could run away with the lot. It’s the defence that will be the problem, they still need another decent Center back and holding midfielder (We’ve been here before). New signing Vermalean is good but where is the cover if him or Gallas get injured? No Toure and a question mark over Senderos still. A season of Jack sh*t for Jack?
Dexy’s Diamond: Andrey Arshavin

3) Chelsea
Last year, I really fancied The Chelsea…… No’3s missus. Nothing has changed my master plan to snare Cheryl but plenty has changed with regards to Roman. Anchelloti is known as Preferisco La Coppa (“I Prefer The Cup”). And that is the prize Roman wants to snare more than anything. Silver and Bronzes won’t do for the Russian and Carlo his chum has the pedigree. I really thought Scholari would bring home the bacon last year but he didn’t adapt his game, struggled with man management and eventually lost the dressing room. I don’t see this happening with Carlo, cooler than a foxes glacier mint! The Italian will get the defence back in check and the arrival of Yuri Zhirkov should bolster the whole team. He is brilliant on the left for Russia and CSKA Moscow and might even keep Ashley out of the team (although I’m thinking he’ll be used on the left of a diamond). Roman won’t give a fig about the diamond or the Prem this year. All he want’s is Big John crying tears of Joy in Santiago Bernabéu Next May.
Dexy’s Diamond: Yuri Zhirkov

2) Manchester Utd
I’ve been cautious here for the runner-up spot. I think it could go down to goal difference in all of the top 3 places and this is where the Mancs will come up short. Defensively brick-like last year apart from when the Rio/Vidic combo got separated, they are the best pairing in the game but this is not the problem for Fergie. Ronaldo’s goals are the reason for their recent success and they are in Spain. Owen will bag plenty if fit alongside Wayne who is about to smash the 20 goal barrier, it won’t be enough though, in the league or in Europe. Time’s up Fergie.
Dexy’s Diamond: Wayne Rooney

1) Liverpool
A couple of players didn’t play their full quota of games last season due to injury. They were Torres and Masha, both of them world class in their respective roles. If they can stay fit along, with last seasons player of he year, the G-man. I see at least 15 more goals & the title back on Merseyside after 20 years & that is without Alonso. Johnson will be attacking threat and Yossi will be used more. Aqualini can play a bit and will be perfect just a tad in front of Masha the Gnasher. Defensively, they are bit short in the first week or two but I still think they have enough. I think my score on the winner is safe this year.
Dexy’s Diamond: Torres

I think Villa will buy a playmaker before the window. (been linked with Sneijder and Van Der Vaart- although i cant see it)… So we would play Carew up top on his own with Young, Downing and Sneijder* behind him. Delph and Petrov mopping up behind them.
I know most Villa fans love Milner- but i would not play him… i think he will end up being dropped for Marc Albrighton this year anyway. Young kid— dribbles like Hleb but crosses like Beckham.

However, we will struggle unless we buy a couple of defenders and quick. Warnock and Dunne look to be on their way- who are decent but perhaps not going to improve our starting eleven enough to push towards top 4. I think your prediction is pretty fair.

Man City and Chelsea to battle it out for the title.

Milner for England!! I’ve always said it haven’t I!!!

Again, due to my absense in Holland, a few bits are missing in the blog, the work experience boy is currently cleaning the ukff bogs with a toothbrush. I think we can all work out the missing bits. My own team West Ham with only 4 line, typical again! Sunderland are in at 10 instead of Fulham who are 11th, due to the European committements.

We have spoken about Man City enough over the last week so they can have a small paragraph!

  • Jj

City have brought top 4 rejects, that’s not not enough to even make the top 6. Sorry dexy, I did a bad thing, I will do my research next time, micky marbles told me most of that info down the pub, he was half a sleep at the time

  • dexylongshot

So, it’s begun an and Steven “I’m gonna use the pikey!” Hunt certainly ruffled a few feathers with the first goal of the season. Chelsea clawed back though and 2 goal didi snathed it in the last minute. Did they look like Champions though, not yet methinks.

  • mickeymarbles

I think the lad Milner is very good, he can play with either foot and definately is the nearest thing we have had that resembles the genius of Waddle in his prime. The rasenal boy is also impressing me, good work buy Wenger again. I fancy a another good run for the gooners this year.

  • Lockwoodhorne

You still as confident after Liverpools current display? Think the bookies might make a few quid this year when the Scousers (again) fail to pull it off.
