Tom Serry, Ashley Bowles and Jack Camm are amongst a trio of ex professionals who will take part in the launch match of the UK Elite Squad. Ex Jamaican Youth International, Omar Thomas will also appear.
The match vs a Leatherhead Club X1 will take place at their Fetcham Stadium on 15th September and has been arranged by UKFF Executive Chairman, Adam Parry.
Adam Parry told ukfffc.co.uk ” The calibre of players that we are attracting to this match is a clear signal of our intent and the buy in by former pro players about what we are trying to do. We have a plan to take the UKFF brand up to another level where aspiring as well as second chance pro players can seek to impress potential employers.”
As part of that plan, League 1 Swindon are sending down a representative to this match and other pro clubs will also be invited.
In 1974-75, the Isthmian League Club ” The Tanners” were national news with an FA Cup run that saw them beat Isthmian League rivals Bishops Stortford (First Round), League side Colchester United (Second Round), and 3rd Division Brighton, managed by Peter Taylor (Third Round). In the Fourth Round they were drawn against 1st Division Leicester City at home. It remains the furthest the club has ever reached in the competition. With the game switched to Filbert Street, at the request of Tanners management, the BBC’s Match of the Day and over 32,000 people saw a dramatic match, in which the Tanners went two goals up, and then saw a Chris Kelly goalbound shot that would have made it 3–0 cleared off the line. Leicester City’s fitness and class eventually told as the top- team fought back to win 3–2 in the second half.
