Gate receipts and the credit crunch

Should I stay or should I go?

Since the start of the Premier League clubs have spent over £2.5 billion on upgrading their stadiums. English clubs make more from gate receipts then any of their European counterparts.

Although attendances are still very good, with the exception of the 3 promoted clubs and money bags Manchester City they are actually slightly down from last season.

With the recession kicking in next Summer will be crunch time for a lot of clubs. Attendances may stay high but profits may well fall. Large businesses and corporate hospitality has suffered the most with renewals down from last season.

According to a recent BT survey 24% of season ticket holders are considering cancelling their tickets to watch TV.

Has the Premier League finally sold out?
