Is she for real?

I read an article yesterday that really got my goat up. Having just spent 3 amazing weeks in India it made me realize just how up tight us Brits really are.

Some Doris, who I’ve never heard of wants Sunday League football banned for fear of fights and conflict.

Organizers have been ordered to carry out risk assessments before allowing matches to take place. This Doris, who I shall call Mary Whitehouse II has drawn up a massive booklet which says ‘If not planned properly, football can trigger conflict. Passions can get high and physical contact can lead to confrontations.” So can netball love, passion is part of life! It also told organizers to check to see the history of teams and if they have a score to settle.

Shadow communities secretary Eric Pickles (No relation of our very own Peter Pickles) said “This will give a green light to jobs worth to ban competitive sport. Football has the potential to promote community spirit and keep young people out of trouble.”

A communities Department spokesman also said “This is about encouraging people from different backgrounds to interact, not about banning activities.

I bet old Mary Whitehouse II loves a game croquet though, wot wot!!

please name and shame this person, I’d actually personally like to write to her myself.

Lets ban all violet films, computer games, walking, driving, golf, snooker, pogo sticks, dogs, and basically anything that this middle class under sexed fat waste of space doesn’t agree with….

I’m going to put my neck on the block here and say that she is, in part, correct.

Not that I’m in favour of banning Sunday League by any means. What I agree with is that Sunday League needs a lot of work in order for it to be successful. When I joined a Sunday League team last year, our first game was with a proper referee – FA qualified, experienced and knew what he was doing. After that, the league organizers failed to supply us with a proper ref. The man in the middle had to be a player from one of the teams who was too crocked to play or drew the short straw. Games turned ugly, victories became hollow and eventually I stopped playing simply because I wasn’t enjoying it anymore.

So while the writer of the article was correct in saying Sunday League has a violent and over-aggressive side to it, she went the wrong way in calling for it to be banned. The answer is simply to celebrate the fact it’s an event that millions of gents up and down the country enjoy doing and to ensure that it’s officiated, organized and run the way it should be.

dancing and booze can cause conflict and confrontation, lets ban both of those.

Jamie, are you going to take this woman out on a date?

While not having seen the original article I would hazard a guess that the author is a very religious person. Religious to the point where she believes that Sundays should be kept sacred and heathenistic activities such as football should not take place on that day. Notice how there is no call to ban the sport on the other six days of the week.

It looks like it’s just another angle to promote Sundays in church and not to “rest” on the sacred day after all.

Sunday mornings are kept for religion………………and that religion is football!!!!

Its the only religion that counts

Darren, I’ve seen you dancing and boozing. It very often does lead to conflict and should be banned!!!!! And while I’m on the subject, Stevie, what’ve you got against the colour Violet??

  • http://www.ukfootballfinder.co.uk Darren

Kaka loves jesus and won’t play on Sundays, thats the main reason for him turning down City. Before you reply with so do AC Milan, it’s actually his doopleganger Laka. Laka plays the first half and Kaka the 2nd. Watch and you’ll see how much better Kaka is in the 2nd half of games!!

Not a lot of people know that.

I’m a non stop dancer, when I’m not dancing it means I’m out of job. Derek and Clive RIP.

  • Stevie

violet films are not my cup of tea, I prefer arthouse black n white ones

  • Dave

Rumour has it that City don’t play on Sundays either. They make take the field but they haven’t been playing recently! Hehe.
