Liverpool will increase their original offer of £5m as they attempt to prise Inter Milan’s Philippe Coutinho to Anfield this January report The Liverpool Echo.

Cash strapped Inter Milan have already sold Wesley Sneidjer below his market value to Galatasary and look to be set to agree a fee with Liverpool for one of their most promising young prospects.

20 year-old Coutinho has represent Brazil at all levels and has one cap for the senior side. He has played 27 times for Inter since his move in 2010 from Vasco Da Gama.

Premier League fans may know him from his impressive appearance against Tottenham in the 2010-2011 Champions League which Inter won 4-3. The diminutive Brazilian wrecked havoc in the Spurs defence as Inter took a dominating 4-0 half-time lead.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping for more performances of that calibre against Premier League opposition if Liverpool are to perform in the Champions League next season for the first time since 2009.

The versatile Coutinho, who wears the number 7 shirt for Inter, can play attacking midfield, out wide or just behind the striker in the number 10 role. He is excellent with both feet and looks to be Brendan Rodgers’ second signing of this January transfer window.
