Both Manchester United and Manchester City crashed out of Europe last night leaving just two English representatives in the knockout stages. Now, the question all football fans, players and coaches will ask is how is this going to affect their form over the coming season?

Mixed opinions are flowing but many believe “Manchester” to now go on and dominate the premier league as that is their main goal for the season. They may do but there is no doubt both Manchester clubs enter the Europa League in hope of triumph and they are big favourites to be there in the latter stages. This means they won’t be resting players in Europe to improve league form and teams such as Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are definitely not out of the race this season.

With Chelsea maybe coming back into form, Spurs and Arsenal are currently on fire so it’s not going to be that easy for the Manchester clubs. Maybe the champions league could impact the London clubs’ team selection and that will play into Sir Alex Ferguson and Roberto Mancini’s hands but knowing both bosses, the Europa League will be very important there’s no doubt about that.

Of course it’s a huge blow for both United and City to go out of European football’s most illustrious competition but this will have no affect on the title race whatsoever. They will treat the europa league in the same way they would the champions league and they will both be gunning to win it as well as the premier league. Maybe they will contest the final come May but what we certainly do know is that the FA Cup final will only be represented by one half of Manchester at best after the outcome of the third round draw to be played on January 7th.
