Lucky Arsenal leave it late to grab 3 points

Arsenals title hopes were once again on a knife edge until Nicklas Bendtner grabbed a 93rd minute winner to secure a 2-1 win against a plucky Hull side, who played the whole of the 2nd half with 10 men.

The victory takes the Gunners joint top, level on points with Chelsea having played a game more.

Arsene Wenger’s men looked sharp as they took the lead in the 14th minute with a brilliantly taken goal from Russian forward Andrey Arshavin.

But Hull were on level terms after Sol Campbell brought down Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink with a clumsy challenge. Campbell was lucky to stay on the pitch, but the veteran defender was only shown a yellow card as Jimmy Bullard stepped up to smash the penalty into the top corner.

Hull were soon down to 10 men after George Boatengs horrific challenge on Bacary Sagna resulted in a second yellow card.

Arsenal looked jaded and struggled to get their passing game going as Hull defended magnificently.

Andrey Arshavin wasted a chance late on as Hull looked like picking up a well deserved point.

However, in added time Nicklas Bendtner once again stole the headlines as he pounced on a mistake by Boaz Myhill to give the Gunners a massive 3 points.

Winning games when you’re not at your best is the sign of champions. Arsenal have been written off so many times this could be the season that Arsene Wenger’s belief in his young team finally comes to fruition.

I don’t think arsenal were lucky, to me they were unlucky. It wasn’t a penalty, yet it was given, so how is that lucky, on top of that sol campbell got a yellow card. We missed so many chances in front of the goal, which we usually convert, so that was bit unlucky. Cheers

When ManUnited scored last minute goal, it would be quality. If Arsenal score last minute goal, is all due to luck. Fuck you 🙂

good point Musher! United score last minute deflected goals all the time.

We didnt play our best but that’s what champions are made off!

I don’t fancy Chelsea’s next few games tbh. I think it’s between us and United

we were a bit lucky to be fair, but you need luck to win titles. Sol could of easily gone on 2 different occasions.

we hardly created anything in the second half which surprised me, I thought we would run rings round them but we looked tired. Passes were going astray, especially from Denilson, who looked a bit out of his depth at times, however, he made amends with that brilliant shot that lead to the winner.

People always forget how many players we had out too

that’s the whole of our backbone!

Arsenal 2009/2010 league champions, bring it on!!
