Magical World Cup memories – Brazil 1982

It still completely baffles me as to why that Brazil side of 1982 didn’t win the world cup. Espaná ‘82 is still the best and most magical tournament I’ve ever seen.

I was 8 years old and remembered every single moment. To this day, I still haven’t seen football played so beautifully. They were so good that many experts said they were even better than the world champions of 1970.

The ‘dream team’ of 1982 arrived in Spain with the whole nation expecting them to return with the trophy.

In their famous Yellow and Blue, the South Americans sailed through the group stages with stunning victories over USSR (2-1), Scotland (4-1) & New Zealand (4-0), scoring some of the most spectacular goals ever seen along the way.

Arch rivals Argentina were swept aside (3-1) in the quarter final group stages in devastating fashion.

It was like watching the Harlem Globe Trotters of the football world.

Only needing a draw they then faced an Italian side that had only won 1 game in the whole tournament.

But one man in the name of Paulo Rossi single handedly ended their hopes with a superb and memorable hat trick. The Italians eventually won the game 3-2 and went on to win the World Cup.

Despite that defeat the Brazil side of 1982 are still the most exciting team the world has ever seen.

If you’re to young to remember sit back and watch this video.
