Keeping it real with the UKFF Girls

Cafe de Paris; a popular, swanky London club normally associated with burlesque dancers. Attracting hundreds of partygoers every weekend, it is the place to be. Tonight, however, was about 6 ladies in particular. Although Claire, Nati, Heather, Claudia, Nicola and Jo lived in different places and had never met before, they were all stood in London’s vibrant Piccadilly Circus for one reason. The Miss UKFF 2010 final sponsored by Cali Base.

For a lot of girls, entering a beauty pageant is something that they aspire to do. To be able to dress up in glamorous dresses, to flick their hair in a way that only works whilst strolling carefree down a catwalk, and to have all eyes on you for that very special 5 minutes of your life. However, UKFF is known for not being your stereotypical pageant. When interviewed, it becomes clear that dreams of world peace and wanting to make the world a better place, had been exchanged for questions about football. An unlikely choice you may feel. But when it comes to the fans, having girls talk about their love of the sport and who their dream team would be, could not be sexier.

With a chance to fly over for the UKFF California modelling week, looming in the horizon..these 6 lucky ladies really had a chance to start something big. As I chatted to the girls throughout the night, I came to realise that no matter how pretty there were, they were also extremely down to earth. Strange, considering most people would assume the claws would come out as the competition heated up.

We spoke about a variety of things. When asked about their thoughts after reaching the grand final of Miss UKFF, the girls kind of joined forces and admitted that they were all pretty nervous, but excited at the same time. The catwalk was something that provoked this nervousness, however I sensed that the excitement overruled this. We spoke about how privileged the ladies felt after beating many other hopeful models, and how none of them had actually been to California before..so what better way to introduce yourself to the Hollywood Hills than to be there as a model!

Part time model Claire, spoke about her lack of plans for tonights event “Even if we did have some sort of game plan, I’m sure it’d go out the window as soon as I step foot on that catwalk!” FHM High Street Honeys finalist Nati added, “It’s just such an achievement, to be promoting something I love!”

As 10.30pm got closer, and the finalists got more and more nervous, we made our way to the venue. Cafe de Paris did not disappoint. With a catwalk and stage taking up a lot of the downstairs, it was clear that this night was going to be dedicated to the UKFF girls.

One by one, the girls took their turns to strut their stuff down the catwalk, before being briefly interviewed by presenter Amy Aldridge. As the girls each revealed their favourite teams, modelling experience and general love of the sport, the ever-growing crowd cheered and made it known who their favourite was. Answers varied, and each girl worked that stage! No-one could predict who the judges were going to choose, but at the end of the day, all 6 girls were up there having an awesome time. To win would definitely be a bonus, but it wasn’t the end of the world. And after questioning the girls individually about what exactly it would mean to them, and why they thought they should win, each one said it’d be amazing and an achievement. However, they could not stress enough how much they liked their fellow finalists and each seemed to genuinely mean it!

As the end of the night drew near and the judges debated over drinks at their table, I could see a few nervous faces. No-one could really predict who was going to win, and sadly I had to leave before the winner was announced. However, a massive CONGRATS to Nati, Claudia and Claire who I heard all made it through to California!!

All in all, an awesome night!
