Player of the season – Nemanja Vidic

Gareth Bale may have been voted the PFA player of the year, but as always the decision was a completely ludicrous one. Bale is an awesome talent no doubt, a total revelation but he won the award purely because of ‘that’ European performance against the reigning champions.

The decision was almost as baffling as the decision to award Ryan Giggs the same accolade last year, who ironically has had one of his best seasons in a United shirt this season, adapting effortlessly into central midfield.

In truth though, there hasn’t really been an outstanding candidate for the player of the year, but certain players have looked phenomenal at times this season.

Samir Nasri was scintillating during the first half of Arsenals’ campaign, but was unable to maintain the fantastic form. Van Der Vaart has proved that he is much more than a Real reject, but as with the young Frenchman his form has significantly dipped during the business end of the season.

Manchester City’s Argentinian dog, Carlos Tevez has been without doubt their best player and has proved himself to be one of the best centre-forwards on the planet. It’s still not quite clear if he will remain at Eastland’s next year, but you can be sure City will fight tooth and nail to keep him.

West Ham’s Scott Parker has put in some fantastic performances all season, and is the only reason the Hammer’s haven’t been relegated already. Unfortunately he’s surrounded by mediocre players and it appears as though his stellar performances may not be enough to keep the West Ham up.

All of these players have shined this season, but there is one player that has been even more consistent and instrumental to his team’s success than any of them. Sorry Blackpool fans, I’m not talking about Charlie Adam, I am referring to Nemanja Vidic.

A few eyebrows were raised when Sir Alex bypassed Rio for the captaincy, but the decision was an absolute masterstroke. The Serbian has been an immovable object at the heart of Manchester United’s defence this season, and is the main reason why the new (nearly) champions have only conceded ten goals at home this campaign. United look a significantly better team when Vidic plays, and when partnered with Rio Ferdinand they arguably form the best central defensive partnership in the world.

His excellent season was rewarded with the winning goal against Chelsea, a goal that has all but confirmed that all important 19th league title, the one that finally knocks Liverpool off their f*****g perch.

Agree 100%. The guy is class, week in, week out. I think he’s made 2 mistakes in 4 years. He’s the reason why United win so many games when playing bad

    In a word … YES.

    He has been very consistent

David Silva, Robyn Van Persie & charles N Zogbia also deserve a mention

Who would yours be Emu Man?

  • Kenny Lomas

David Silva definitely, I also wanted to give Hernandez a mention but word count’s are the bane of my life! I think Van Persie is a different class, but injuries prevent him from being truly great imo. Just remember people, this is purely just my opinion.
