Debrecen vs Liverpool Preview:

Liverpool head into this crucial Champions League qualifier with survival out of their hands. If Fiorentina beat Lyon at then Britain’s most successful club in Europe will be out of the celebrated competition, and into the Europa League they will go. Teams with history such as Liverpool are not used to Thursday night football, but they will have to adapt quickly if they are to salvage something this season.

Jamie Carragher insists that failure to qualify would not be a disaster saying,
“If we don’t make it through, we have to accept it and move on. Stevie and myself won what was then the Uefa Cup back then. It was a great moment.”

Carragher cited such teams as Valencia and Benfica as “great teams still left in the competition.”  Benetiz remains upbeat, even though his captain seems resigned to the fact that the likelihood of Liverpool qualifying is very slim; being five points behind Fiorentina and six behind Lyon who defeated them at Anfield.

Liverpool is surely expected to win tonight, but Debrecen have a decent chance. They have scored more goals than Liverpool in the Champions League this season, and their forward Gergely Rudolf is very capable of exploiting the apparent restrictions of Sotiris Kyrgiakos and Martin Skrtel; deputising in defence tonight.

Any more injuries for Liverpool tonight, and their season could grind to a complete halt.

Nah, they’ll stick with him for the rest of the season- they have to. Can’t get any worse than this for the Kop surely?
