AC Milan looking good for a runners up spot

By Glezos Alberganti, La Settimana Sportiva

This weekend’s big match in Serie A was tonight’s clash between
AC Milan and Juventus. After Inter’s unexpected draw (2-2) away at Chievo,
meant that AC Milan had the chance to reduce gap to five points, and at the
same time to confirm their second place status. It wasn’t to be, as Juventus
gave their all in an outstanding performance. David Beckham had another very
poor game. Goals came in the second half: Vincenzo Iaquinta equalized two
minutes after Clarence Seedorf put AC Milan ahead, and the final score (1-1)
closed all matters in the title race. Mourinho’s men now only have to beat
mid-table Siena next Sunday at San Siro to clinch their 17th league
championship.

Fiorentina won a difficult away game at Catania (0-2), and now things look
good for a possible fourth place, which means Champions League
qualification.

Genoa drew at Bergamo against Atalanta, and now chances of a
Champions League place look thin. Lazio and Sampdoria, the two Coppa Italia
finalists, have their minds on next Wednesday Cup final in Rome: Lazio lost
at home against UEFA Cup candidates Udinese (1-3), while Sampdoria crushed Reggina 5-0.

Reggina and Lecce’s chances to avoid relegation look very slim, while Torino
and Bologna drew an intense game decided by penalties (1-1). For both teams, the relegation battle will be a last game, last-minute affair.
