Jose wins another title

By Glezos Alberganti, La Settimana Sportiva

Yesterday 78,000 ecstatic Inter fans gave Mourinho and his boys a hero’s welcome in a sold out San Siro, after Udinese’s win against Milan on Saturday (2-1) gave the Nerazzurri their 17th, fourth consecutive Serie A title.

AC Milan’s hopes to clinch the title were very slim: seven points behind Inter with three games to go, the Rossoneri faced a tough away game at Udine, where a rejuvenated team played magnificently for the whole 90 minutes. Ambrosini’s injury time goal wasn’t enough, and Milan found themselves in the unenviable position of giving the Scudetto directly into Mourinho’s hands in advance. Inter players watched Milan’s game on TV while celebrating the 64th birthday of chairman Massimo Moratti. The party continued in the famous Piazza Duomo, where thousands of supporters cheered the players. The Sunday evening game against mid-table Siena turned into a big celebration, and Inter won 3-0 (Cambiasso, Balotelli, Ibrahimovic).

Fiorentina pushed their Champions League ambitions with today’s 1-0 win over Sampdoria, still in shock after their defeat on penalties to Lazio in last Wednesday’s Cup Final. Juventus, who drew at home against Atalanta, is now under pressure: Fiorentina are now only one point behind.

In the danger zone, Torino won at Napoli and Bologna beat Lecce at home. Reggina won a difficult home game over Cagliari but remains the main candidate for relegation, along with Reggina and Lecce.
