Sven McClaren has named his squad for the crucial World Cup qualifiers with the surprise inclusion of Fulham’s Jimmy Bullard.

England start their campaign with a double-header against the mighty Andorra and Croatia on 6th and 10th September respectively.

England are very short in the central midfield area with Frank Lampard fit, Steven Gerrard, and Manchester United duo Owen Hargreaves and Michael Carrick injured. Bullard will no doubt train with the squad and keep the bench warm for both games.

There is also no place for Newcastle’s Michael Owen despite an impressive start to the season, Portsmouth’s Peter Crouch also misses out.

Theo Walcott aside, the England squad lacks any genuine pace as Aston Villa pair Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor are once again ignored.

Goal scoring sensation Emile Heskey keeps his place in the squad. But there is some good news as Robert Green finally gets a well deserved call up.

Goal Keepers

Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Blackburn), David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham)

Defenders

Joleon Lescott (Everton), Wayne Bridge (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), John Terry (Chelsea), Wes Brown (Manchester United), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Matthew Upson (West Ham)

Midfielders

Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Jimmy Bullard (Fulham), David Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), David Bentley (Tottenham), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham)

Fowards

Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Jermain Defoe (Portsmouth), Emile Heskey (Wigan)

Bullard is a good choice and I’m surprised Capello has actually picked a player that doesn’t play for the top 4!

I’m very worried to be honest, the same over paid idiots who can’t perform in an England shirt will no doubt start. If Capello has any balls he will drop Lamplard and play Barry & Bullard. He won’t though as he is secretly writing him love letters.

Where is Crouch? He’s ideal as he’s the only player who actually knows how to score in a England shirt, the same can be said about Owen.

    Capello hasn’t got a clue.

We’ll beat Andorra 2-0 and will lose 1-0 in Zagreb

    Rob Green? He’s awful!
Poor squad he’s named- again missing any sort of Pace and penetration, but at least Jimmy Bullard is in there. The only player in the squad who knows how to make angles and play intelligent probing passes. He’s what England need at the moment.
The strikers are a problem- but i dont envy Capello there. There is a real derth of quality strikers. Im really hoping James Vaughan of Everton gets an injury free season and comes good. Ive always liked what ive seen from him.

Rob Green is better then both James and the woeful Robinson. We have a big problem at the moment in that we have no goal keepers, forwards, midfielders or defenders.

Good to see Sven McClaren is giving the youth a chance.

Bullard is quality, its about time he got the call up!!

I got shot down when i said get Bullard in for England! people laughed at me! like they laughed when i said spurs were crap… Seems i was right on both counts! Spurs are crap and Bullard for England!!!

Bullard is a great call, and should at least come off the bench if needed. he has a genuine ability to turn a game, something England have lacked in substitutes in recent years. We’ll be ok as long as he drops Beckham for Bentley and plays 2 upfront, not just Rooney alone. I would suggest Heskey and Walcott with Rooney behind them, at least for the Andorra game….Bentley, Barry and Cole in midfield with the usual defence.

We should muller them, but of course it’ll be a flat 442, with Rooney and Defoe running like headless chickens and no service, 1-0.

Why not play Bullard against Andorra? At least for the second half when the game shoud well and truly be wrapped up …then again, this is England!

I’m very concerned about Croatia away and you’d have to be a brave man to bet on us getting anything more than a draw there. The squad is lacking pace and why on earth Agbonlahor and Young aren’t there I don’t know.

Bet he plays LampTard… Sven McLaren will get it all wrong. The only way we will qualify for the world cup is if South Africa fail to keep hold of it!

Sad but true, Dexy seems to think he will get it right, he actually thought Capello played all the has beens against the Czechs so Stuart Pearce could play the youngsters, with the idea being they would be promoted to the 1st team squad, this hasn’t happened of course. So expect 2 more incredibly dull snail paced games with Beckham doing what he does best and that’s taking corners. Lamptard will no doubt be mentioned twice throughout the whole game, Terry will get mugged by some average Jo who can’t even get into the first team of his crap club side, but the commenter’s will still say we are world class and can win the tournament.

Sven McClaren’s post match interview will consist of mumbled pigeon English saying I thought we play excellent first half, we created lots of chances (3 to be precise) and that’s against Andorra.

Fabs the man, mark my words, (although dissapointed with Ashley Youngs exclusion and Deano).
Jimmy should living in the dressing room at least, good on him, very under-rated.

But 1st things 1st, 7 hours to go till transfer deadlines. What the F**K has gone on at City, hi-jacking Berbatov from Fergie, he will be pleased!!!

  • tef1on

Barbie wont go to City… Utd will agree personal terms and jack the price down at last minute

  • Stevie

oh what fun sitting in front of Sky Sports news waiting for Arsenal to sign a bloody midfielder!!

Ronhino at Man City, very over rated player but never the less will be good watching him

  • tef1on

Apparently Bullard was seen at Arsenal training ground! Watching this one til 12.

  • Stevie

    no chance! he’d be perfect!

should of kept Diarra though, thats what I say!
