Cameroon v Egypt

So who would have thought it? Me old muckers Egypt making it to the final. A Dexy Longshot of 19-1 could earn a few lucky punters a fair old wedge. The Pharaohs were 6th favourites at the start of the campaign and have quietly gone about their business. It comes as no surprise to me of course; they are the current champions after all.

A win for Egypt will see them join a rare club of countries that have won back-to-back tournaments with the same manager. The Egyptians are aiming to add to their record five titles after winning previous tournaments in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998 and 2006.

Coach Hassan Shehata is hoping his side’s 4-2 victory over Cameroon in the group stages will give The Pharaohs a psychological edge.

“Cameroon are a big team, but we’ve already beaten them in this tournament and that is a good sign for us to produce a good result on Sunday,” he said.

“All my players are motivated, they want to keep the title to prove that we are truly the champions of Africa.”

‘Cameroon will be found wanting in the later stages.’ So much for that tip, I’ll be sick as a parrot if Cameroon do win as my mates at Football Finder have 400 big ones riding on it. Might you, I might get a pay rise, as cheap as it is in Ghana my allowance of a fiver a day went weeks ago.

Like Egypt the Indomitable Lions have gone about their business quietly. That 4-2 defeat to Egypt was hardly the start they wanted. But midfielder Stephane Mbia said the defeat in Kumasi has helped galvanise his team.

Cameroon will be without naughty boy Andre Bikey who pushed over a medic during the semi-final win over Ghana. But defender Alexandre Song should be fit, despite being stretchered off in the semi-final win over host nation Ghana.

A win for Cameroon will see them equal Egypt’s tally of 5 tournament wins, previous wins were 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2002.
