Battersea Ironsides GSA 6 Shirley Town 1

We were beginning to get a little worried as UKFF’s official team couldn’t buy a win. But 2 weeks in football is a long time. Since late October the Irons have scored 13 goals conceding 3. This week they entertained Shirley Town in the Junior League Cup Round 2 and here’s what happened.

Sometimes scorelines flatter to deceive. True the Ironsides were always in control of cup match in which they started as very strong favourites. The hapless performance of the opposition whose best hope was their plan to kick their way to some sort of success, was there for all to see. This truly was an awful Shirley side.

But even allowing for the continued goal scoring form of Lampthy and De Almedia who both hit braces and another brace from the imminently departing Pedro De Silva, could not disguise the truth – this was a woeful performance by the Ironsides. It was undisciplined as the three bookings (including MOM and birthday boy and penalty misser El Kaddouri )and a sending off testified. It was disjointed and at times just darn right selfish. Its best to move on and if certain players repeat their “performance” of today, they will be moving on too. Nuff Said.
