Top 10 Premier League Managers (No: 9)

The Premier League began in 1992-93 so I thought I would see who had won what domestic trophies in that time. The Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup have been covered and I have also thrown our European competition winning managers in to the mix to find the best 10 managers in the history of the Premier League.

9) Bobby Robson – Newcastle

An Englishman!! I need to sit down. Of course, Bobby would have been more highly placed if this top 10 was taken over career success and not just domestic success since the inception of the Premier League. He won a league title with Ipswich and the UEFA Cup, was England’s best manager since Ramsay and enjoyed great success on the continent with Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven and Sporting Lisbon. A great manager and he would be challenging the top 3 in a career top 10.

Two Englishman take 9th and 10th place. Harry Redknapp, Alan Curbishley and Sam Allardyce have all done sterling jobs at their various clubs but have not won anything between them, bar promotion to the Premier League. Moyes, Jol, Vialli, Atkinson all deserve a mention as does Souness, Hughes, Jewell, Coleman and Royle. You may argue that some of these names deserve to be in the top 10 because they work under different conditions to the big 4 clubs and indeed, I would have included a few of these managers in my own personal top 10. However, this 10 was based on success in the English game and unfortunately, success means trophies.
