Champions League predictions

It’s European time folks and I’m after some spons or I’ll have to start pulling in the purse strings, what better than check out these little belters.

Barcelona (3) v Celtic (2)

Fawlty Towers waiter Manuel would have been raising a San Migeul to Messi & co after they broke Celtics home record a fortnight ago in a breathtaking end-to-end stormer at Parkhead. The Bhoys always seem to hold their own and score in the final minutes in the Glasgow cauldron but they couldn’t hold onto a point despite taking the lead against the 4-1 Cup favourites. A one-goal advantage and 3 away goals will be hard to overcome at the Nou Camp and I fear it will be adios for the hoops. If you do fancy a patriotic punt, they are big at 14s but you may be wise to go with another bet. Messi is now the top scorer in this year’s tournament on six with a brace against Celtic. He was rested at the weekend and tore Lee Naylor apart in the first leg bagging a brace. He is around 4/1 to be 1st on the score sheet but I’ll be having a gander at 6/5 for the Argie to notch at any time tomorrow.

Prediction 3-0

AC Milan (0) v Arsenal (0)

This one is very tricky to call. Milan may fancy their chances after a 0-0 stalemate at The Emirates but they have to win to go through, the Gooners don’t, they can settle for the draw as long as they get a goal. Milan are undefeated in there previous 6 home games in the competition but may be missing Seedorf and Emerson in midfield, Wenger must exploit this or Arsenal’s season will be over. Since Eduardo’s horror tackle, the Arse have had to dig deep and Wenger will have to psyche them up for this one especially after a poor showing against Villa on Saturday. The possible return of Van Persie and the speed of young Theo may well be a factor when AC Milan go forward for a goal, leaving them open for a classic counter-attack, enter Walcott, he has a chance to stake his claim for first team football in Eduardo’s absence and fulfil his promising potential, I ‘m having a few bob on him to get a goal at 9/2. A Milan win is 11/10 but I think the bookies are being very generous with the draw at 11/5 and 3/1 for an Arsenal win.

Prediction 1-1

Man United (1) v Lyon (1)

Is it a formality that United will beat Lyon and proceed to the latter stages? I say a big fat yes, although it won’t be easy. Lyon are a force going forward and I still think they might nick a goal at Old Trafford, sadly for the frogs, The Red Devils are still undefeated in Europe along with Chelsea and Barca and it will stay that way.

Lyons attacking threat is tre bien (that’s right innit??), in Juninho, they have one of the best (if not the best) free kick taker in world football. Their pairing of Hatem Ben Arfa on the left and Karim Benzema alone up front feeding of from him is the future of the French national team, both players are extremely talented and it is only a matter of time before they move onto one of Europe’s big boys. Ferguson even asked Saha to sweet-talk Benzema into joining the Reds. Benzema is said to be quite impressed with the treatment table apparently! At the back though, it’s different story for the frogs of Lyon. Alain Boumsong is at centre back (chuckle!) and I predict another goal fest at Old Trafford. Ron & Rooney didn’t start on Saturday so will be itching to get the pitch and do what they do best, (they are equal 4/1 first goal scorer bets). Add to the mix the geniuses of Tevez & Scolesy running things in midfield I can’t see anything other than a Man U win in their 250th European match.

If you fancy a long shot, Juninho & Benzema are worth a look. Fergie will be bricking it every time Juninho steps up. At 11/2 to score at any time, he may be the danger. Benzema is a fat 11/1 with Paddypower. I’m also gonna get a load of a Man Utd 3-1 win at 14s if you shop about.

how good were Arsenal tonight? That result must surely go down as the best result in the Champions league for an English club?

    Top 5
    AC Milan 0 Arsenal 2
    Juventus 2 Man Utd 3
    Barcelona 1 Liverpool 2
    Inter 1 Arsenal 5
    Lazio 0 Leeds 1

Why do Arsenal fans always get so carried away!! They laugh at Spurs for doing it, but they are worse…It was a good result, don’t get me wrong, but I think you will find that Manchester United and Liverpool’s amazing comebacks in the final, yes the game where Arsenal bottled it like Jana Novotna then blamed everyone but themselves, were the best two results for English teams in the competition. Not just because it won them the trophy but because each time they were down and out and fought back against a great side. We’ll talk about Arsenal matching that if and when they make Moscow this year…

because in the face of adversity we always triumph, that’s why. How many people apart from Arsenal fans actually gave us a chance last night? We did not only beat Milan 2-0, we absolutely out played them. We were better in every department. Fabregas at 20, made fools of the whole Milan midfield.

The first English team to win in Milan when everyone has has failed, 62% possession against the current Champions, we have proved once again that we are a force to be reckoned with, unlike the Spuds who a stupid little cup competition, this was for real.

    Excited? Absolutely, who wouldn’t be?

I agree with Martin. It’s all well and good moaning about Spurs fans getting excited by beating Chelsea and walloping Woolwich on the way to winning the Carling Cup but when the shoe is on the other foot, they roll out the barrel!!! “It will mean nothing if you dont win it” is what I heard from Woolwich fans after the 5-1. You’re talking like you’ve already won it. “F*&k all, you’re gonna win f*&k all ….”

they the days the Spuds com home from the San Siro with a 2-0 win will be the day the Pope injects heroin!

1 mickey moose cup, anyone would think you’ve won just won the premier league
